Step 2 – Configure PayPal Settings

Step 2.1 – Login to your PayPal account

PayPal supplies three types of accounts – Personal, Premier and Business. The plugin cannot work with personal accounts so you may need to upgrade to a premier or business account.

To check this, after logging in, go to My Account tab. The type of your account is shown underneath the welcome message. See below :

Step 2.2 – Find The API Information

PayPal is rolling out a new version of its interface. When you log in you may be still seeing the old interface or you might be seeing the new interface.

Either way, you need to get to your profile.

Old Interface

If you still have the old interface, after you log in you will see a page like this :

Do the following if you have the old interface :

  1. From the My Account screen, click on Profile link, in the horizontal menu just under the My Account tab.
  2. In the third column, under the heading Selling Preferences, click on Instant Payment Notification Preferences link
  3. Enable IPNs and set the Notification URL to be http://your-domain/wp-content/plugins/subscriptionboss/subb-ipn.php where your-domain is the site where you have installed the SubscriptionBoss plugin
  4. Save the settings
  5. Then back on the Profile page, In the first column, under the heading Account Information, click on API Access link
  6. Within the area on the right hand side, called Option 2, click on the View API Signature link.
  7. Copy the API Username, API Password and Signature and paste them somewhere safe so you can recall them.
  8. Go to your WordPress dashboard and click on the Settings link for the SubscriptionBoss plugin.
  9. Enter the PayPal API Username, API Password and Signature that you just copied, into the fields called API PayPal Username, PayPal API Password and PayPal API Signature respectively

New Interface

Alternatively, if you have the new interface, after you log in you will see a page like this :

Do the following if you have the new interface :

  1. From the My Account screen, click on Profile link, in the horizontal menu just under the My Account tab.
  2. On the left there is a grey box – click the link My selling preferences link
  3. Within the area entitled Geting paid and managing risk, click on the update link, for Instant payment notifications.
  4. Enable IPNs and set the Notification URL to be http://your-domain/wp-content/plugins/subscriptionboss/subb-ipn.php where your-domain is the site where you have installed the Subscription Boss plugin
  5. Save the settings and go back to the Profile Summary page
  6. Within the area entitled Selling online, click on the update link, for API Access.
  7. Within the area on the right hand side, called Option 2, click on the View API Signature link.
  8. Copy the API Username, API Password and Signature and paste them somewhere safe so you can recall them.
  9. Go to your WordPress dashboard and click on the Setting link for the Subscription Boss plugin.
  10. Enter the PayPal API Username, API Password and Signature that you just copied, into the fields called API PayPal Username, PayPal API Password and PayPal API Signature respectively
